Movement Medicine with Laura Valenti in Sacramento

After a long journey with the School of Movement Medicine, I attended in December the first module of the Professional Training. I am currently allowed to teach MM as an apprentice teacher.  When I had a meeting with my teacher Susannah Darling Khan, she said to me I was going to be the gipsy teacher….and I thought wow…yes, this is what is going to happen, after I deeply felt that I couldn`t stay in London anymore on regular basis and that I wanted to travel, especially to places where there are communities living in a way that respects the Earth and embrace the sacred in daily life activities. So, next month, I will be in Peru…

In the meanwhile, I am in California, as there are beautiful opportunities here in the filed of sound therapy and I can learn more. I decided to take a risk (as I don`t have many contacts here) and arrange a 4 weeks journey to discover Movement Medicine…so please share it with friends if you know anyone in this area…

For those who don`t know, Movement Medicine is a form of conscious dance and movement meditation that has deep roots into shamanism, contemporary therapeutic and artistic wisdom. It is a practice that supports personal growth, expansion, healing, well-being and a deeper capacity of freedom of expression. It is an embodied powerful tool that calls us to be more present and grounded, to be more of who we are and find the alchemical tools to transform, channel and overcome in a creative way the challenges of our lives. It allows us to explore more who we want to be and what is our unique creative expression and which are the gifts we bring to this world. It allows us to develop a more friendly relationship with ourselves and to align body, heart, mind and spirit.

In my journey with MM, I danced my socks off while I had cancer and I was undergoing chemotherapy and I deeply trusted the intelligence of my body and its capacity to heal and knew that movement is my medicine. When I was a child and I had quite a difficult time as my mum passed away and my gran-parents didn`t have the tools to support the sensitive, imaginative, ethereal child that I was, I would lock myself in the living room and dance as a crazy for hours….that was an intuitive knowing, that was the way I was finding the strength to live and what I really loved….It took me many years as an adult to realize that I was holding a lot of pain and trauma in my body…one day, suddenly I felt one of my arms was nearly paralyzed and a light bulb went on and I thought ” the answer is in the body, if so much is coming through the body, the healing too has to come through the body!”…this is how my conscious journey began…it was a long time ago and I knew that somehow my body was  numb, I remember saying “I can feel that i don`t feel my body”…so for me, the dance has been the most powerful tool to heal from traumas and come back home into my body.

Susannah and Ya`Acov Darling Khan, the founders of the School of Movement Medicine, have been loving and compassionate teachers and most of all created that ground where I knew I was safe enough to explore and share wounds that needed healing and I would find my way to blossom. They have been there kindly when I thought I was invisible and made me feel included, respected and witnessed.

I will share more about my journey with MM, but I wanted right now to mention few things, as my teachings of MM come from my direct and embodied experience of what MM brought in my life…

Having said that, I hope to meet you on the dance floor in California! Lots of love!!!!
